Tooth-Healthy Thanksgiving Foods

Pumpkin Pie at Thanksgiving tableThere are many reasons we love Thanksgiving including the time spent with family members, the delicious food we get to eat, and the time spent talking about all the things we’re thankful for. In addition to all these things, Thanksgiving can also be pretty good for your teeth, as long as you’re eating the right things.

Thanksgiving Food That’s Good For Your Teeth

Below are three of the foods served at Thanksgiving that has been shown to be good for your teeth:

  • Protein – Turkey, most everyone’s favorite part of Thanksgiving, is full of protein. This means it’s great for both your teeth and your body! Protein mixes with calcium and vitamin D to help create strong teeth and bones. Indulge in some turkey – it’s great for your smile!
  • Produce – While turkey is the star of Thanksgiving, the side dishes can be great for you as well. Thanksgiving favorites like carrots, asparagus, collard greens, and yams are full of important vitamins, nutrients, and fiber. The produce is great for your body and your teeth, but don’t go too crazy on supper buttery vegetable dishes.
  • Pumpkins – Pumpkins are full of vitamin A, which is great for your tooth enamel. It’s also high in fiber and potassium, which means it’s great for your oral health all around! Even the pumpkin seeds are tooth-healthy, as they contain magnesium, which strengthens teeth and makes them less vulnerable to dental cavities. So don’t feel too guilty about indulging in a slice of pumpkin pie!
