Benefits Of Brushing Your Tongue

Brushing Tongue

The benefits of brushing your teeth are quite well known. The removal of bacteria, plaque, and decay, a decreased risk of dental cavities, and fresher breath. What you may not have heard about are all the benefits of brushing your tongue as well as your teeth.

If you think about the things you’ve eating in the last few days, anything that has come in contact with your teeth has come in contact with your tongue as well. Bacteria on the tongue can cause just as many problems as bacteria on the teeth, and can spread to clean teeth if not brushed away. Because of this, tongue hygiene is very important.

Tongue Brushing Technique

Brushing your tongue is not quite the same as brushing your teeth. Some people have two toothbrushes, one for their teeth and one for their tongue. You can use the same brush as long as you make sure to rinse it thoroughly before and after switching from the teeth to the tongue or vice versa. Make sure you brush your tongue from the back to the front.

Benefits Of Tongue Brushing

A few other benefits of proper tongue hygiene include:

  • Decreased risk of tooth decay
  • Avoid having a sore throat
  • Prevention of plaque buildup
  • Reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke
  • Eliminate the bacteria that causes strep throat
