How to Care for Dental Braces

Did you get dental braces? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Here’s a complete yet brief guide on how to take care of your dental braces. So, without further ado, let’s dive in!

Watch What You Eat

This is probably one of the biggest sacrifices you will have to make to take care of your dental braces the right way. Let’s start with the foods that you are allowed to eat. These include cooked vegetables, tofu, milk, yogurt, soft bread, lean meats, soft nut butter, and fruits.

However, according to a Frederick orthodontist, you aren’t allowed to eat crunchy and sticky food items as they can get stuck between the braces and your teeth and can be very difficult to remove. These items include popcorn, hard or crusty bread, skittles, gummies, hard candy, crunchy chips, hard fruits, meat from a bone, seeds, or whole nuts.

Brush Regularly

Though one of the most common tips, it is encouraged that people with dental braces should brush their teeth for 2 minutes twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. It is also recommended to use a soft-bristle brush and fluoride toothpaste and to brush in a gentle circular motion to remove the debris from your teeth.

Floss and Mouthwash

Since your toothbrush won’t reach all the cracks and crevices between every tooth, make it a habit to floss regularly. You can use any medicated flossing threat to remove food particles that the toothbrush missed. Once you are done with flossing, don’t forget to rinse your mouth with mouthwash.
