Should I Pull My Kid’s Loose Tooth?

Even though a loose tooth is just another event in your little one’s smile journey, seeing the tooth hanging from a delicate root might tempt you to pull it out. So, if you are wondering, “Should I pull my kid’s loose tooth or not? this blog is for you!

Even though it might hinder your child’s chewing process and the fear of a loose tooth breaking in the middle of your child’s sleep might tempt you to pull it out, you should never interfere. It can damage your child’s sensitive gum tissues and can also cause pain, bleeding, and infection.

Why Is My Child’s Tooth Loose?

Losing teeth is a significant part of growing up. A child usually loses their primary teeth in the same sequence they first erupt. A tooth typically becomes loose when there’s a permanent tooth right behind it, grown enough to take over the roots and force the loose tooth to fall out. However, if the timing of the loose teeth seems off or if they have recently been a victim of a dental injury, it’s best to take them to a Frederick orthodontist to get the loose tooth examined.

How to Handle a Loose Tooth

Forcing a tooth to fall out equals going against your body’s natural process. So, if your child is irritated by the loose tooth, tell them that they are allowed to move it with their tongue but should keep their hands away from it.

However, if your child keeps on wiggling, rotating, and pulling their loose tooth, providing them with an apple is the safest way. The force required to take a bite of an apple will safely dislodge the already loose tooth without causing any harm to the gums.

Wrapping It Up!

A loose baby tooth is a regular occurrence and marks the beginning of adolescence. So, if your kid is worried about a loose tooth, reassure them that it’s completely normal and the pain and irritation are only temporary. Just be sure to never forcefully pull out a loose tooth!
