Eating Healthy Produce This Summer

Fruits and veggiesSummertime means fun in the sun, outdoor cookouts, and plenty of fresh produce. It’s important that you’re eating a variety of different fruits and vegetables all year round because of the important vitamins and minerals they contain. However, summer makes these foods more accessible.

Healthy Summer Produce

In addition to being good for your body, fresh produce is great for your dental health. Below are a few of our favorite healthy summer fruits and veggies:

  • Tomatoes – Tomatoes contain lots of lycopene, which is great at protecting the skin from sunburns. They also contain important antibiotics like vitamins A & C. Make sure any summer veggie platter contains plenty of tomatoes!
  • Strawberries – Strawberries are also full of vitamin C and have been considered superfood! Strawberries help to ward off bad cholesterol, regulate blood pressure, and promote eye health.
  • Watermelon – True to their name, watermelons contain plenty of water. In fact, watermelons are 92% water! This high water content helps to dilute the natural sugars in watermelon, making them healthier for the teeth. Additionally, eating plenty of watermelon in the summer will help keep you hydrated.
  • Apples – Lastly, apples are a classic and summer won’t change that! In fact, you can put away the whitening strips because apples are great for naturally whitening your teeth. Biting into and chewing an apple will rid the teeth of stains. Additionally, eating an apple each day has been linked to better heart health!
