Healthy Drinks That Can Damage Your Teeth

Young child drinking juice

When we think about drinks that can damage your teeth, alcohol, and wine are the first two that come to mind. However, disguised by their benefits, there are several healthy drinks that can damage your teeth as well. In this article, we have listed down four healthy drinks that can damage your teeth. So, without further ado, let’s begin.

  1. Energy Drinks

Advertised and recommended by renowned muscular athletes, energy and sports drinks contain a high amount of sugar. In fact, a 32-ounce bottled energy drink has around 56 to 76 grams of sugar (19 to 14 teaspoons) and a high pH level of 2.9. This makes their so-called healthy drinks a threat to your white teeth.

  1. Fruit Juices

Although natural fruit juices are a great source of nutrients and vitamins, they have a high acidic level which can damage your teeth significantly. Therefore, you must keep your distance from citrus-based drinks like lemon, grapefruit, and orange juice.

  1. Fruit Punch

Even though fruit punch is more delicious, it is rarely made with real juice. The lack of nutrients, high sugar levels, and fructose corn syrup can damage your teeth. Furthermore, fruit punch is more acidic, which can erode your enamel and cause cavities.

  1. Bottled Water

While it might seem like a healthy choice, branded bottled water is highly acidic. Common brands such as Aquafina, Evian, Essentia, Fiji, and Dasani have an acidic value between 7 and 9 pH, which can be very harmful to your teeth in the long run.

Wrapping It Up!

When it comes to healthy drinks, looks can be deceiving. Whatever you eat or drink can have an immediate and definite impact on your oral health, which is why you must avoid drinks that can damage your teeth. However, if you have consumed any of the above-mentioned healthy drinks, we recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth.
