Helping Your Child Keep Good Oral Hygiene Habits On Vacation

At Firestone Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics, we know how much our little patients love summer! Now that the warm weather is finally upon us, we know that many of you will be taking fun, summer vacations. But just because you get a break from your jobs and responsibilities, it doesn’t mean that you get to take a break from your oral healthcare routine!

Below is a short list of easy ways to make sure that you and your family keep up your good dental hygiene, even when you’re not at home:

  1. Visit our office before you go – There are two good reasons to set up a cleaning and exam for the family before going on vacation. First, it will allow you to enjoy your vacation without worrying about needing to make appointments when you get back. Second, it’s easier to maintain a healthy smile on vacation when you start off with a clean slate!
  2. Be aware of what your kids are eating – On vacation, it’s easy to get caught in the delicious, sugary treats that abound! And of course, we’re not suggesting that you or your children abstain from these desserts! We just want to make sure that you stay aware of the extra sugar and what it means for your mouth. To prevent sugar from building up, please remind your children to brush their teeth after especially sugary meals.
  3. Travel sizes are your best friend – You can find every single dental hygiene product in a travel size! This makes it easier than ever to keep up good habits while you’re away from home. Put together a dental health kit for each member of the family and be sure that each kit includes a toothbrush, a toothbrush head protector, floss and mouthwash. Again, each of these items can be found in the travel size aisle!

For more tips on how to help your child achieve and maintain a healthy smile, or to schedule a pre-vacation cleaning and exam, please contact Firestone Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics! Our office is located in beautiful Firestone, Colorado!
