Halloween; from the pumpkin decorating to adorable costumes and

traditions we celebrate today would be almost unrecognizable to the
people who first created Halloween in the first place!
Halloween History & Trivia
Below
is a list of interesting Halloween trivia and history that you can use
to impress your friends at this year’s Halloween party:
- The Halloween tradition of celebrating the fall harvest may be as old as 4,000 years B.C.!
- There are many names Halloween goes by. These include All Hallow’s Eve, Samhain, Summer’s End, and Witch’s Night.
- The
Celtic people in Ireland first began what we commonly know now as
Halloween. It was called Samhain and it was a festival of the fall
harvest and the end of summer. During Samhain, it was believed that
demons could roam the Earth. Because of this, the Celtic people would
dress as demons, just in case they encountered a real demon, who would
mistake them as one of its own.
- Samhain didn’t just inspire
Halloween costumes; it’s also where we get pumpkin carving as well!
During the Samhain celebration, the Celts would hollow out turnips and
place candles inside to ward away evil spirits.
- There’s a
reason that orange and black are Halloween colors. Orange represents the
coming fall harvest, and black represents summer’s death.
- Halloween
is second only to Christmas on the list of highest grossing commercial
holidays! In fact, Americans spend over $6 billion a year on Halloween.
