Worried About Getting Braces? Read This

Most people aren’t excited about the idea of wearing braces. You may be worried about having a mouth full of metal (do they really attract lightning?) or about looking nerdy. Either way, no one actually looks forward to getting braces unless they really need them.

However, orthodontic treatment can help solve various issues, such as jaw alignment or a crooked smile. If you need braces but are still nervous about it, learning these things may ease your concerns.

  • People of all Ages Get Braces: When you think about braces, you probably think of a preteen with thick glasses carrying their weight in books. For some strange reason, that image has become synonymous with braces. However, just as there isn’t anything wrong with wearing thick glasses and loving books, braces aren’t a bad thing either. Braces have become a lot more common, and wearing them does not mean it is the end of your social life. So if it is the fear of your public image that is stopping you from getting braces, it is time to move past it.
  • You’ll Look Better in the Long Run: Okay, so you’ll have to make a compromise for a year or two – depending on how complicated your treatment is – by wearing braces or other orthodontic gear. However, once your treatment is over, your teeth and smile will look better than ever before. In the long run, this temporary treatment will seem like a small price you paid years ago for the perfect smile.

So stop wasting any more time and book an appointment for your braces now. If you live in Fort Lupton, Frederick, or Dacono, visit Firestone Pediatric Dentistry & Orthodontics now.

And by the way, the common misconception that people with braces attract lightning is entirely false. A person wearing braces has the same risk of being struck by lightning as one without any metal in their mouth.
